Filmmakers have the freedom to upload their original films and/or series, setting their own prices to reflect the value of their work. Users can then explore our platform, browsing through a diverse collection of indie films and shows, and purchase the ones that catch their interest. It’s a seamless experience that connects creators directly with their audience, empowering independent filmmakers to share their stories and viewers to discover unique content they won’t find anywhere else.
How do filmmakers get paid?
At Play Pretend Originals, we believe in simplicity and transparency when it comes to paying our filmmakers. Here’s how it works: Once you’ve uploaded your content and set your price, every purchase and view means earnings for you! At the end of each month, we tally up all the sales to calculate the total revenue. You’ll receive 80% of the total sales after the transaction fees made by WooCommerce, directly deposited into your account. This ensures fairness for everyone involved. Your earnings will be deposited via your preferred payment method—whether it’s Cash App, Venmo, or PayPal.
It’s important to note that the payment cycle resets with each transaction. For example, if you earn $200 in your first month and then $100 in your second month, you’ll receive $100 in the second month, not the combined total of $300. This ensures that you receive accurate payments based on your monthly earnings.

- Total Sales Buzz: In a course of one month, 30 people bought his film that had a set price of $10.00, so that creates $300 in sales.
- Transaction Tango: Every transaction comes with a cost, and here, it’s a 2.9% cut of the total sales plus a flat fee of $0.30 per transaction, with 30 people buying the movie, that sums up to $17.70 in transaction fees. WooCommerce takes the $17.70 from the $300.00 leaving us with $282.30.
- The Filmmaker’s Earnings: Josh, the filmmaker, receives 80% from the total sale after the transactions fees. So, the filmmaker will receive roughly about $225.84 – $232.80. That total will be transferred into his preferred payment account.
